James Franklin Packwood

James Jim Franklin Packwood, 83, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away on December 8th, 2022 of natural causes.
Jim was born on June 8th, 1939, to Ida Jane Parrot and John Franklin Packwood in Parma, Idaho. He grew up in Adrian within the Big Bend community. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1957. After spending some time continuing to work on his parents farm, he joined the U.S. Armys 23rd Infantry in 1960 and was stationed in Fort Ord, California, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Lewis, Washington and Fort Richardson, Alaska (where he took part in Willow Freeze maneuvers.).
In May of 1963, Jim met Leverda Ann Simons on a blind date set up by Leverda's friend, Margaret Cox. They were married three months later on August 16th, 1963. Jim and Leverda went on to have three children, whom they loved deeply, and celebrated nearly six decades of commitment to their family.
Jim spent most of his time from the 60s through the 80s maintaining his parents farm and working in various agricultural jobs. When not working, he enjoyed playing in local pool tournaments, catfishing, and hunting with his best friend for life, Wallace Butch Butler. Jim was also a big fan of BSU football. Go Broncos!
After retiring, Jim didnt believe in letting things go to waste, and spent several decades giving his time to recycling. He found value in things other people may have overlooked. Jims character led him to preventing hundreds (likely thousands) of tons of metal from going into landfills. His grandchildren deeply admire him for his time and energy in creating a more sustainable future for our planet. His grandson, Daniel J Maggard, recalls once receiving a truckload of toys that Jim had brought home from auction for only a few dollars. What Jim lacked in riches, he made up for in an abundance of love. He cared about his grandchildren dearly, and spent time with them at every opportunity.
Jim was predeceased by his son, Johnny Packwood. He is survived by his brother, Harry Packwood, of Payette, his son Jamie Packwood, of Adrian, his daughter Christina Boss, of Caldwell, and his beloved wife Leverda Packwood, of Caldwell, as well as many grandchildren and great grand children.
Jim would have given the shirt off his back for any stranger in need, and made friends in unlikely places all over the Treasure Valley. There are many lessons he has left his family, but especially the simple beauty in humility and kindness.
Services will be held at Adrian Community Church on Saturday, January 14th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to his wife at https://gofund.me/fc82a64c during this difficult time.
